Protect Our Reefs with the Lionfish Tracker Specialty Lionfish, originally from the Pacific Ocean, are rapidly invading the Caribbean and north-western Atlantic, where they lack natural predators. This invasion is threatening the delicate balance of marine ecosystems, particularly the coral reefs. By joining the Lionfish Tracker Curaçao & Bonaire Specialty, you'll gain the skills to safely and responsibly remove lionfish while contributing to the preservation of local reefs. During this course, you’ll participate in two scuba dives where you'll put into practice the tools and techniques for ethical lionfish removal, helping to protect native marine life. What You Will Learn Lionfish Removal Systems: Learn to use the ELF Lionfish Removal Tool and containment devices like the Zookeeper™ within recreational diving limits. Spotter & Tracker Method: Master the Spotter and Tracker method of lionfish removal to ensure safety and effectiveness. Environmental Awareness: Understand how to avoid disturbing delicate marine life while removing lionfish. Safe Handling: Discover how to handle lionfish safely, including how to avoid stings and safely store lionfish after removal. Performance Requirements The PADI Lionfish Tracker Curaçao & Bonaire Specialty includes: Knowledge Development: Participate in a classroom session and complete the Lionfish Tracker Knowledge Review provided by your instructor. Lionfish Removal Tool Workshop: Learn how to use lionfish removal tools effectively and safely. Two Open Water Dives: Demonstrate your skills during two open water dives under the guidance of a certified PADI Instructor. Course Requirements Minimum Age: 15 years old Prerequisite Certification: PADI Open Water Diver (or equivalent) Medically Fit for Diving: You will need to complete a medical questionnaire to ensure fitness for diving.
